GORHAM, Maine -- The visiting Plymouth State University Panthers women's volleyball team used a balanced frontcourt attack to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-22) in a Little East Conference match Wednesday evening at the Warren Hill Gymnasium.

With the win, the Panthers extended their current winning streak to 10 matches.  The Panthers are now 19-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  The Huskies dipped to 7-10 overall and 1-2 in LEC matches.

PSU had five players contribute five or more kills to its attack that swung for a .264 attack percentage (45-16-110).  Junior Francie Shaffer (Frederick, Colo.) led the way with 10 kills,  Senior Alexis Bowers (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) knocked down nine kills, and rookie Emilee Flanagan (Milton, N.H.) chipped in with eight.  Junior Carabeth Norklun (Goffstown, N.H.) added seven kills, and sophomore setter Alexa Price (Moultonborough, N.H.) had five kills to go along with 29 assists.

Senior libero Alisha Flanagan (Milton, N.H.) led the Panthers' backline with 14 digs and had three assists and a pair of service aces.  Bowers had 13 digs to go along with her nine kills.

Sophomore Kacey Foerster (Scarborough, Maine) led the Huskies' offense with eight kills.  Senior Kylee Austin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) had six kills, and sophomore setter/right side Sophie Lindsay (Pasadena, Calif.) chipped in with five kills to go along with 10 assists, eight digs, and three service aces.

Freshman setter Cassidy Gibb (Lee, N.H./Oyster River) had 13 assists, and Foerster shared game-high honors for digs (14) with Flanagan.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the opening two sets, then held off Husky comebacks to take a 2-0 lead.  The Huskies tied the second set at 22-22, but the Panthers took the next three points on kills from Price and Bowers, and an ace from Alisha Flanagan.

In the decisive third asset, the Huskies held an 18-14 lead to force a Panther timeout.  The Panthers responded by taking the next five points to take the lead 19-18 and force a Husky timeout.  PSU took six of the next 10 points to take the set, and the match, on a kill from Norklun.

Southern Maine is back in action on Saturday (12 p.m.) hosting a tri-match with LEC foe Eastern Connecticut State University and Curry College.  Plymouth State will host a non-conference tri-match with Worcester State University and Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on Saturday (12 p.m.).
