GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's team opened Little East Conference play Saturday dropping a 9-0 decision to visiting Worcester State University at the Gorham High School tennis courts.
With the win, the Lancers leveled their record at 2-2 overall. The Huskies dropped back to .500 at 1-1 overall. The match was the mutual conference opener for both teams.
Junior Dominique Alves (Ludlow, Mass.) and senior Lauren Taylor (Attleboro, Mass./St. Raphael Academy) led the Lancers from the top of the table. The duo combined for an 8-2 win at first doubles over the USM combination of sophomore Emma Nassif (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) and freshman Regina Harmon (Palermo, Maine/Erskine Academy).
Alves returned to knock off Nassif in straight singles in the number one singles match, and Taylor posted a straight-sets win over Harmon at number two singles.
