The University of Southern Maine Athletics Department announced in August 2017 that Ashley Durepo was named head coach of the women’s lacrosse program following a national search.  Durepo becomes the seventh head coach in the history (1972-1979; 2001-17) of the women’s lacrosse program at USM.  She succeeds Ashley Dyer who guided the program for three seasons (2015-2017).  Durepo is no stranger to the USM program having served as an assistant coach under former head coach Lauren Reid during the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

“I’m incredibly grateful to (Director of Athletics) Al Bean, (Associate Director of Athletics) Kim Turner and the entire search committee for the opportunity to return to the University of Southern Maine.  I would also like to thank my mentors, (former University of New Hampshire coach) Sandy Bridgeman, Lauren Reid, and Michael Daly for their guidance,” responded Durepo when asked for her reaction to being named head coach.

“I could not be more excited to be back at USM and to work with our student-athletes in achieving their goals both in the classroom and on the field.  I’m looking forward to continuing the growth of the USM program as we look to work hard and get back to the LEC championship,” added Durepo.

Durepo returns to USM where she helped Reid and the Huskies win the Little East Conference championship in 2010 after serving as the head coach and recruiting coordinator for the Granite State Elite Club (Milford, N.H.), and as the aquatic coordinator at Hampshire Hills (Milford, N.H.).

A two-time All-America East Conference second-team selection and an AEC All-Rookie Team pick during her playing days (2006-09) at the University of New Hampshire, Durepo began her coaching career at USM before returning to her alma mater for the 2012 season.  She moved on to serve a three-year stint (2013-2016) as an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

“I'm very excited to have Ashley joining our staff as head coach of the women's lacrosse program,” commented Bean.  “Ashley was an outstanding collegiate player, has experience as an assistant at the University of New Hampshire, UMass Lowell and USM, and has extensive coaching and administrative experience at the club level.  She's familiar with USM, having served as an assistant to Lauren Reid for two years early in her coaching career and I expect that will help her in the adjustment process.

“I'm confident that Ashley will be a successful recruiter of top talent, will develop a strong and competitive lacrosse program, and will be an outstanding role model and teacher of the game for our student-athletes,” added Bean.

During her collegiate playing career at UNH, Durepo helped the Wildcats reach one NCAA tournament and make four America East tournament appearances.  She scored 90 goals and dished out 28 assists for 118 points in 72 games, and annually ranked among the team’s leaders in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.  Durepo was also a three-time America East All-Academic Team honoree, and graduated from UNH with a bachelor’s degree majoring in sociology with a business management minor.
