Violette Named LEC Defensive Player of the Week
Huskies Host Wellesley on Wednesday

            GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that University of Southern Maine junior Megan Violette (Portland, Maine/Deering) has been selected as the women's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending March 31.  This is Violette's first career LEC weekly honor.

            Violette received the honor after totaling nine caused turnovers and six ground balls while leading a defensive unit that allowed seven goals per game in a 2-0 week for the Huskies. She caused six turnovers and picked up two ground balls while scoring four goals in a 15-6 non-conference win at Salem State University.  Violette caused three turnovers and picking up four ground balls in a 16-8 conference victory at Eastern Connecticut State University.

            For the season, Violette leads the Huskies in caused turnovers with 14.  She also has 10 ground balls and 10 draw controls to go along with six goals and four assists in six games.

            Southern Maine, 3-3 on the season and 1-0 in LEC play, takes on Wellesley College on Wednesday (6 p.m.) at Hannaford Field.
