Southern Maine Closes Regular Season at Tufts

            MEDFORD, Mass. -- The University of Southern Maine men's track and field team closed the 2018-19 indoor regular season Saturday competing at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet.  The event was a non-team-scoring meet.

            Senior Drew Gamage (Sabattus, Maine) had the best finish among the USM competitors placing third in triple jump with a mark of 13.66 meters (44-9 ¾).  Sophomore Ben Musese (Auburn, Maine/Lewiston) was fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.45 meters (44-1 ½).

            Junior C.J. Moody (Old Town, Maine) had a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.40 meters (21-0).  Senior Justin Pierce (Standish, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and junior Jack Ricker (Conway, N.H./Kennett) tied for sixth in the high jump by clearing 1.91 meters (6-3 ¼).

            On the track, the Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay foursome of junior Donivyn Harms (Westbrook, Maine/Rochelle [Ill.] Township), Pierce, sophomore Zach Hoyle (Sidney, Maine/Messalonskee) and junior Cam Labrie (Tamworth, N.H./Kennett) combined for a time of 3:22.82.

            Also competing were senior Trey Rogers (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) in the 60-meter dash (7.19) and 200 meters (23.53), classmate Colin Jones (Scarborough, Maine) ran in the 800 meters (2:02.06), and Moody raced in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles (8.87).

            The NCAA will announce its final descending order lists for the national championships on Sunday at 9 a.m.  Coaches must declare events for athletes by 1 p.m.  The top 20 individuals declared for each event will head to the NCAA Division III National Championships next weekend (March 8-9) at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
