Huskies Head to NYC for ECAC Division III Championships Friday and Saturday
GORHAM, Maine -- The Eastern College Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards for track and field on Wednesday, and University of Southern Maine freshman Cory Dyer (Jacksonville, Fla.) was selected as the Corvias ECAC Track and Field Division III New England Rookie of the Week for the second time this season.
Competing at the NEICAAA (New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association) New England Championships last weekend at Boston University, Dyer tied for fifth place in the high jump by clearing a season-best 1.99 meters (6-6 ¼).
Earlier this week, Dyer was picked by the Little East Conference as it men's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this winter.
Aided by Dyer's performance, the Huskies finished a program best fourth among the 33 teams that scored in the two-day meet with 43.50 points. Northeastern University won the team title tallying 161 points. The University of Rhode Island claimed the runner-up spot with 89 points, and Southern Connecticut State University was third with 51. The Huskies' fourth-place finish surpassed the program's previous best finish of sixth place accomplished last year.
The Huskies will send qualified competitors to the ECAC Division III Championships this Friday and Saturday in New York City.
