Huskies Travel to Bates Invitational This Weekend
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference today announced its first weekly track and field honors for the New Year, and two members of the University of Southern Maine men's team were recognized for their performances at the USM Open this past weekend.
Junior Ryan Turner (Lebanon, Maine/Winslow) was selected as the Field Athlete of the Week and freshman Jordhan Levine (Waterville, Maine) was picked as the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. This is the second LEC weekly citation for Turner in his career. Turner was tabbed as the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week during his first season in 2012-13.
Competing at the USM Open, a non-team scoring event, Turner finished second overall (first among Division III athletes) in the pole vault after soaring over the bar at 4.27 meters (14-0) to take the runner-up spot behind a Division One competitor. Turner also met the qualifying standard for next month's New England Division III Championships.
Levine, a newcomer to the Huskies' squad this past week, won the triple jump and finished fourth overall (second among Division III competitors) in the long jump. In the triple jump, Levine posted a mark of 13.23 meters (43-5) to take the top spot. He had a best jump of 6.36 meters (20-10 ½) in the long jump. Levine's mark in the triple jump also met the standard for the New England Division III Championships next month.
The Huskies will participate this weekend in the Bates College Invitational.
