D'Aloisio Stops 21 Shots for the Shutout
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Junior goalie Anthony D'Aloisio (Frisco, Texas) stopped 21 shots and classmate Maverick Lynes (Sherwood Park, Alb.) scored two goals as the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies shut out the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats 5-0 in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's game Saturday afternoon at Lynch Arena.
The win gave the Huskies a sweep of their two-game weekend road trip to Suffolk University and JWU. The Huskies improved to 2-5-0 overall and 2-4-0 in NEHC action. The Wildcats fell to 0-5-0 overall and 0-4-0 in conference play.
D'Aloisio earned his first shutout of the season, and the third of his career, to give the Huskies their second straight win. With the clean sheet, D'Aloisio dropped his goals against average to 1.74 on the season, and raised his save percentage to .942.
Lynes was one of five USM players to register two points in the game. The third-year rearguard picked up his third and fourth goals of the season in the second period to expand the Huskies' lead to 5-0. Lynes' second goal came while the Huskies enjoyed a two-man advantage.
Senior captain Mark Tomaschek (Toms River, N.J.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first period, and had an assist on Lynes first goal, for his second multiple-point game of the season. Rookies Curtis Judd (Saco, Maine) and Tanner McClure (Buxton, Maine) each scored their first career goals and had an assist for a two-point game. Sophomore Adam Withers (Kenora, Ont.) dished out two assists.
Tomaschek gave USM a 1-0 converting a feed from Withers at 9:53 of the opening period. McClure's first career marker, set up by Withers and Judd, came at 15:28. The Huskies dominated the period outshooting the Wildcats 17-5.
Judd potted his first career goal at 2:23 of the second period, set up by McClure and junior Jonathan Bartuccio-Pereira (St. Bruno, Que.). Lynes made it 4-0 at 12:42, and put the final goal on the board 18:02 after passes from seniors Brock Padgham (Chilliwack, B.C.) and Cody Braga (Middleboro, Mass.).
JWU junior goalie Mike Rothwell (Poughquag, N.Y.) stopped 38 saves as USM outshot the home side 43-21 for the game. USM was successful on 1 of 5 power-play opportunities while killing off all three shorthanded situations.
Southern Maine is back in action playing its fourth game in an eight-day span on Tuesday (7 p.m.) hosting Salem State University for a non-conference game at the USM Ice Arena. JWU travels to Westfield State University on Tuesday (7:35 p.m.) for a non-conference game.
