Croteau Named GNAC Golfer of the Week
GORHAM, Maine -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) today announced its first set of weekly golf awards with University of Southern Maine senior Brendon Croteau (Lewiston, Maine) topping the list as the Golfer of the Week. The weekly honor for Croteau is the first of his career.
In three events to begin the 2019 fall season, Croteau finished tied for second at the Huskies' season-opening tri-match with Saint Joseph's College and the University of Maine at Farmington, was the low medalist at the John Queenan Memorial, and tied for eighth place at the Bowdoin Invitational. He has compiled a scoring average of 76.3 strokes per round over four rounds.
At the August 30 tri-match at Gorham CC to begin the season, Croteau carded a 4-over par 75 to tie for second place to help the Huskies take the top spot with a team total of 298. Croteau played the front side in 5-over par 40, but posted the best score in the field on the back nine with a 1-under par 35.
Four days later, Croteau took the low medalist honor at the Queenan Memorial with a 2-over par 74 at the Point Sebago Golf Resort. He went out in even par 36 before coming home with a 2-over par 38 to finish two strokes clear of the field.
This past weekend, Croteau finished the 36-hole Bowdoin Invitational, played at the Brunswick GC, tied for eighth place with a 12-over par score of 156 to help the Huskies finish third in the 15-team field. Croteau posted a 3-over par 75 in the opening round on Saturday, and an 81 in the final round on Sunday.
Southern Maine returns to the links on September 17 playing in the Thomas College Invitational at the Waterville CC.
