GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference today announced that University of Southern Maine junior Molly Carl (York, Maine) has been selected as the women's cross country Runner of the Week for the period of September 26 through October 2.
Competing at the Bowdoin College Invitational this past Saturday, Carl won her third race in as many starts this fall. She covered the 6,000-meter course that will be the site of this year's NCAA Regional Championship in 22 minutes, 38.82 seconds. Her performance helped the Huskies finish fourth among the 10 teams, including three USTFCCCA regionally-ranked squads.
Nationally-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology edged host Bowdoin for the team title, 67-69. Wellesley College was third with 87 points followed by Southern Maine with 93 and Westfield State with 108.
Earlier this season, Carl was the top finisher in a non-team scoring dual meet with Brandeis University and at the University of New England Invitational.
The Huskies will participate in the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEIcAAA) Championship next weekend. The meet will be held at Franklin Park in Boston. The women's sub-varsity race will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the varsity race taking the starting gun at 12:30 p.m.
