Huskies Defeat Bridgewater and Fall to AIC
GORHAM, Maine – Freshman Zak Dipini (Franklin, N.J./Pop John XXIII) won both of his matches to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 1-1 day as it hosted the Bridgewater State University Bears and the American International College Yellowjackets in a wrestling tri-meet Saturday afternoon at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine.  Southern Maine defeated Bridgewater State 32-14 and fell to AIC 30-13.  AIC won both of its matches defeating Bridgewater State 35-9.

         With the split Southern Maine is 1-1 in dual meets.  American International evened out to 3-3 with the pair of wins, while Bridgewater State falls to 1-7.

         The Huskies won seven of their bouts in their 32-14 win over the Bears. Wrestling at 133-pounds, Dipini took a 10-2 major decision victory over BSU senior Ken Francis (New Bedford, Mass.). Freshman Andrew Natalizio (Port Jervis, N.Y./Minisink Valley) and senior Cinjin Goewey (Pittsfield, Maine/Maine Central Institute) each earned wins by falls.  Competing at 141-pounds, Natalizio put freshman George Cowan (South Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) to the mat in 2:15 to earn his second pin of the season.   In the 149-pound match, Goewey pinned junior Chris McLaughlin-Sniger (North Dartmouth, Mass.) in 2:01 to improve his overall record to 8-4 with four wins by fall.

         In the loss to AIC, Dipini and classmates Jake Rasque (Lebanon, Maine/Marshwood) and Christian Barrett (Peabody, Mass.) accounted for all 13 of the Huskies points.  Dipini improved his overall record to 8-3 with a 7-1 decision over AIC senior Este Lara (Avon, Conn.).  Rasque picked up a dominant major decision win at 125-pounds over AIC freshman Andrew Chase (Bristol, Conn.) by the score of 12-0, while Barrett earned a win by fall over AIC freshman Freddy Bruce (Springfield, Mass.) in 1:40 at 197-pounds.

         Southern Maine travels to the Gulf Coast Invitational in Fort Meyers, Fla. on Sunday, December 18 (9:00 a.m.).
