GORHAM, Maine - Freshman Madison Greene (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) has earned her second weekly citation from the Little East Conference following another outstanding week in the circle for the University of Southern Maine Huskies softball team. Greene, who was named the LEC Rookie of the Week, was previously the LEC Pitcher of the Week on April 24. Greene is one of three Husky pitchers to earn weekly accolades from the conference office joining classmate Alexis Brown (Malden, Mass.) and junior captain Amber Kelly (Berwick, Maine/Noble). Brown was named the LEC Rookie of the Week on March 27, while Kelly earned Pitcher of the Week honors on April 10.
Greene completed another standout week for the Huskies, making four appearances and posting a 2-1 record. In 27.1 innings pitched, Greene allowed just six earned runs for an outstanding 1.54 earned run average. In a 4-3 win over Eastern Connecticut, Greene allowed one earned run on seven hits in seven innings. She did not issue a walk and struck out two. In a 7-2 win over UMass Boston, Greene was again in control and did not yield a walk, scattering seven hits (none of them for extra bases) over seven innings while striking out four.
Recently completing a remarkable rookie season, Greene finished 2017 with a 6-2 record with one save. Leading the Little East Conference in earned run average (1.60), Greene was even more dominant against LEC opponents dropping her ERA to 1.31. She held batters to a .237 average firing 70.0 innings.
