Gamage, Marshall Past Season Bests at MIT Last Chance Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomores Drew Gamage (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) and Jared Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) turned in season best performances Thursday evening at the MIT Last Chance Meet.  The meet was a non team-scoring event.

Gamage had a career best mark in the triple jump of 14.65 meters (48-0 ¾) to finish first, and moved into a tied for 16th place on the latest NCAA Division III performances list.

Marshall broke the school record for the second time this season lowering his mark to 14.56 seconds to finish first.  He shaved six one-hundredths of a second off his previous standard set 12 days ago at the New England Division III Championships.  In the process, Marshall moved into the 20th position on the NCAA performance list.

Junior Ron Helderman (Madison, Maine) cleared 4.81 meters (15-9 ¼) to take second place on a tiebreaker in pole vault.

The MIT Last Chance meet concluded the regular season for USM.  The final NCAA performance list will be posted on Friday morning, and declarations must be filed for the Division III National Championships, by 5:00 p.m.  The final list of meet participants will be released Saturday morning.  The top 2o individuals declared in each event, and the top 16 relays, to make the NCAA field.

The 2017 NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Geneva, Ohio, on May 25-27.
