Southern Maine’s Even and Gazzeloni Earn ECAC Honors

TROY, N.Y.  –  Senior Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and sophomore Julian Gazzeloni (Windham, Maine) placed sixth and seventh respectively in the 1500-meter run to earn All-ECAC honors while competing at the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Division III Championships held Thursday and Friday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  The meet is the final regular-season event on the Huskies 2012 spring season.

         Gazzeloni took seventh place crossing the finish line in three minutes, 52.98 seconds.  Gazzeloni's time in the 1500-meter run is the second fastest time in USM history. Even's record breaking finish in three minutes, 52.12 seconds bettered his previous record time of 3:53.17 set recently at the NCAA New England Division III Championship.  Even snapped the Huskies' previous record of 3:56.10, which stood for six years. 

         Southern Maine earned five points to finish in a six-way tie for 47th place among the 63 teams that scored in the meet.  Bates College won the team title with 61 points, followed by Rowan University in second place with 49 points. Ramapo was third with 40 points, while MIT and Amherst placed fourth and fifth respectively with 33 and 29 points. 

         Southern Maine student-athletes will await the announcement for the field of the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championship which will be announced Sunday after final declarations have been submitted.  The NCAA Division III National Championship meet will be held next Thursday through Saturday (May 24-26) at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Claremont, Calif.
