The Huskies finished fourth out of four teams with 98 points. Bates won the invitational with 254 points, followed by MIT in second with 183 points. Colby scored 133 points to finish third.
Harmon placed third in both the shot put and the hammer and finished fourth in the discus. Harmon's throw of 40.69 meters (133 feet, 6.00 inches) earned him is fourth place finish in the event, while his throw of 47.97 meters (157 feet, 4.00 inches) in the hammer took third. Harmon's third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.42 meters (47 feet, 3.75 inches) was an ECAC championship qualifying mark.
Sophomore Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) and freshman Tanner Storey (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) each had second place finishes for the Huskies. Gazzelloni ran a 4:02.94 in the 1500-meters to earn a second place finish, while Storey grabbed second in the high jump clearing 1.88 meters (six feet, 2.0 inches).
Freshman Will Wegener (Falmouth, Maine) had a strong day for USM competing in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Wegener earned a pair of third place finishes, finishing the 100-meter dash in 11.40 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.58 seconds.
Southern Maine competes at the Holy Cross Decathlon on Wednesday (12:00 p.m.).
