Huskies Finish Fourth at Fitchburg State Jim Sheehan Invitational

Fitchburg, Mass.  – Freshmen Tanner Storey (Cumberland, Maine/Greely), Kevin Desmond (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) and Will Wegener (Falmouth, Maine) helped lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies men's outdoor track and field team to a fourth place finish at the 2012 Jim Sheehan Invitational hosted this Saturday at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, Mass.

         The Huskies scored 74.5 points to place fourth.  Bates College won the invitational scoring 235 points, followed Worcester State in second with 128 points.  Colby College finished third with 97 points and Emmanuel College rounded out the top five of the 11-team even scoring 56 points.

         Storey finished second in the high jump clearing six feet, 1.25 inches (1.86 meters).  Junior Ryan Storey (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) placed fourth with a leap of five feet, 11.50 inches (1.82 meters). 

         Desmond and Wegener each had fourth place finishes for Southern Maine.  Wegener placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.12 seconds, while Desmond took fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.70.  Sophomore Julian Gazzelloni (Windham, Maine) took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.23.

         Seniors Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) had a third place finish, while Brett Baker (Sanford, Maine) and Matt Harmon (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) had fourth place finishes.  Even placed third in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:01.49 while Baker placed fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 10:05.84.   Harmon took fourth in the hammer with a throw of 155 feet (47.24 meters). 

         The Huskies' 4 x 400 relay team placed first with a time of 3:28.92.  Student-athletes names were not available.

         Southern Maine returns to action at the Colby Invitational on Saturday (12:00 p.m.).
