MEDFORD, Mass. – Freshman Will Wegener (Falmouth, Maine) had a pair of fifth place finishes and ran the fourth leg on the Huskies' third-place 4 x 100 relay team to highlight several strong performances by the University of Southern Maine men's outdoor track and field team at the 2012 Tufts University Snowflake Invitational Saturday in Medford, Mass. The event was a non-scoring invitational.
Wegener finished fifth in the 100 and 200-meter dash. Wegener clocked a time of 11.35 seconds in the 100 and a time of 22.93 in the 200. As the fourth leg of the Huskies' 4 x 100 relay team, Wegener combined with sophomore Josh Mayo (Wells, Maine), freshman Kyle Hall (Collinsville, Conn.) and freshman Tyler Hartman (Lewiston, Maine) for a time of 45.15 seconds.
Senior Tim Even (Stoneham, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and senior Mason Shepard (Portland, Maine/Deering) each had strong days for Southern Maine. Even finished fourth in the 1500-meter run, while Shepard placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Even turned in a time of four minutes, 3.26 seconds, while Shepard crossed the finish line in 16.47 seconds.
In the field events, junior Ryan Storey (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) placed seventh in the high jump clearing 1.86 meters. Hall also earned a top eight finish in the field events placing eighth in the long jump with a jump of 5.84 meters.
Southern Maine returns to action on Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at the Fitchburg State Invitational.
