USM Hosts Alliance/LEC/MASCAC Championships on Saturday
GORHAM, Maine -- For the third straight week, the Little East Conference (LEC) has selected University of Southern Maine sophomore Jared Marshall (Gloucester, Mass.) as its men's indoor track and field Rookie Track Athlete of the Week.
Competing at the annual State of Maine Indoor Track & Field Championships, Marshall won the 60-meter dash flashing across the finish line in 7.04 seconds, and was second in the 200 meters with his time of 22.58 seconds. Marshall also ran a leg for the Huskies' second-place 4 x 400m relay that had a time of 3:25.12. Marshall's 60-meter dash time was a season best and moved him up into a tied for sixth, and the relay's time ranks eighth, on the latest New England Division III performance list.
The Huskies finished the State meet with 82 points to place fourth among the five teams competing. Bates College took the team title for the fourth time in the last five years with 185 points. Host Bowdoin was runner-up with 176 points, and Colby College was third with 105.
Southern Maine will host the annual New England Alliance/Little East Conference/MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this Saturday (11:30 a.m.) at the Costello Sports Complex.
