WATERVILLE, Maine – Senior Abigail Dunn (Gardiner, Maine) scored the lone goal of the game midway through the first half to lift the Thomas College Terriers to a 1-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies Friday afternoon at Bernatchez Field.
Playing in their season-opening games, Thomas College starts the 2017 season with a 1-0 record. Southern Maine drops to 0-1 to kick off its season.
Dunn struck for an unassisted goal at 16:55 to beat Southern Maine freshman goalkeeper Anna Huff (Norway, Maine/Oxford Hills) with a long driven shot for the game-winner. Despite Southern Maine outshooting the Terriers 7-3 in the first half and 9-4 in the game, Dunn's goal was good enough for the win. Terrier freshman MacKenzie Oberholzer (Greencastle, Pa.) made six saves to earn the first shut out victory of her career.
Southern Maine returns to action on Sunday (11:00 a.m.) against Husson at home. Thomas hosts Simmons on Sunday (11:00 a.m.).
