Junior Selected as First Team Utility Player

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine junior second baseman/relief pitcher Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) added another accolade to his growing list of honors today when he was named to the D3baseball.com All-America first team at the utility position.  This is Dexter's first All-American honor from D3baseball.com.

Dexter becomes the 10th different USM player to be honored by D3baseball.com since the All-America program began in 2007.

During the 2018 season that finished early Monday morning with a loss to Swarthmore College in the finals of the NCAA Division III New York Regional tournament, Dexter batted .382 with 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs and 30 RBI.  He also had a .511 slugging percentage, a .429 on-base percentage and was successful on seven of nine steal attempts.

On the mound, Dexter made 25 appearances, all in relief, compiling a 5-4 record with a single-season record 13 saves and a 2.44 ERA.  The right-hander worked a career-high 44 1/3 innings allowing 37 hits, 15 runs (12 earned) and 11 walks while striking out 47.  In addition to setting the single-season record for saves, Dexter became the Huskies' career saves leader against Plymouth State University on April 9 and has finished the season with 26 career saves.

The Little East Conference Player of the Year, Dexter was previously named to the All-LEC first team at second base and relief pitcher.  He was also selected for the ABCA/Rawlings Division III New England All-Region and NEIBA (New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association) All-New England first teams as the utility player.

During the regular season, Dexter was named the LEC Pitcher of the Week on April 9, and the LEC Player of the Week the following week.

Southern Maine finished the 2018 season at 30-15 overall, including a 9-5 mark during the Little East Conference regular season.
